An Old World Cotton love story from 3000 BC might have gone something like this -
"...In ancient Punjab, site of The Indus Valley Civilization, she eagerly awaited his return. He had been gone more than 45 moons and recent rain had swollen up the mighty river Raavi. Her knee length skirt was dyed in red madder and so were her feet and hands, stained in that warm red hue; perfect match for her ruddy cheeks and long flowing very dark hair. She held onto the ^carnelian beads he had gifted her several years ago, a beautiful necklace still held together with cotton thread. She ran her fingers over the indigo-stained embroidered flowers on her skirt and sighed. She missed him so much!..".
Fortunately for us, designers around the world are bringing back the slow fashion movement, seeking cleaner, greener, fair-trade alternatives and steering the fashion system towards greater ecological integrity and social justice. Virsa partnered with one such upcoming designer for her Fall 2019 collection.
Seerat Virdi, founder of MIESU Studio and Virsa project partner, shares her story in a short film.
